so ive had the jd stage two kit on for about two months now and im noticing some serious spring compression. the kit comes with progressive rate coils that are supposed to flex based on the weight exerted on them, but at rest the first three coils are touching each other, and i cant imagine they do anything else while im driving except to provide some extra droop.

is anyone else out there who has these springs with this situation goin on? my ride has lost a good inch of lift since i put them on.

the reason i put in the stage two lift was because im going to put a brush guard and a 302 on it.. and i know thats a couple hundred extra pounds of weight. with these springs compressed like this, i feel like it defeats the purpose of the progressive rate coil. should i send em back or is this normal? maybe i should upgrade to some stiffer springs? .......coilovers??......

You could put a few washers under the springs to gain an inch to inch and a half but that doesn't fix your progressive springs. I would not go stiffer but if I could I hear nothing but great things about Skyjacker!

maybe the compressed coils give room for expansion under extreme flex situations. You dont only want to absorb, you also want to expand on one side while the other side is stuffed into the wheel well. I've only had cheapo susp. lifts so Im no expert...

Huh, that does not sound normal to me, but then again I'm not an expert. Out of curiosity, did you measure the initial amount of total lift that those springs gave you? And then compare it to the height they've got now? It could be that they're just now settling to their standard ride height and before you were running with them not settled.

Either way, I'd say that you should definitely call JD and talk to them about it, and talk to them about the mods that you are going to do and hear what they have to day. I've been eyeing those progressive rate coils, just because I like the idea of having the extended droop and flex while offroading. Right now I'm running the Skyjacker 6" coils that lifted my truck a bit over 6" and then settled down to about 5.5 (I added 1/2" of spacer to level things out), it took about two months for the springs to settle in... but they haven't settled any more since then.

Thats a realy good point too..

yeah initially they gave about 2.75 inches of total lift.. the kit was aimed to get between 2.5 and 3.0. now theyve settled down tot about 1.8. i have always heard good things about their springs.. ill get a pic up so its more obvious what im talking about. i really dont want to go through the headache of trying to get more parts from them. about how much lift help in the front do you guys think would be needed to support that extra weight while keeping a stiff ride? (302 + brush guard)
