i am looking at buying one of these for my '98 xlt 5.0 and was just wondering where they hooked up and how hard the installation was? also would i have to run something other than the cheap gas? im sure the better the gas the better the performance, but would it still hurt to run reg. gas? thanks!

You shouldn't have asked... Everyone is going to tell you what they told me, do Not get it...(Someone said they wouldn't even use it to throw at a stray dog..) Talk to Doug at bamachips.. is what they'll tell you. Don't get me wrong, Bamachips are excellent products from what I hear with top notch customer service and customization, also take a look at SCT tuners..

As for your questions, the chip plugs into the back of your ECU, the installation is quite simple. Unbolt the cover to your PCM which is located in your passenger side firewall, and unplug the wiring harness, undo the two bolts on the clip holding it in and pull it out, you have to clean the contacts on the plug before you can install the chip, once installed.. Clear your PCM by unplugging the negative battery terminal, wait about 10 minutes and plug it in, start that sucker up and drive. You can run any octane gas with these chips at the cost of performance. It's perfectly safe to run cheap gas though.

Depending upon what tunefiles you have written will determine whether you can run regular unleaded. Unfortunately if you want any benefits go with min 89 octane. You don't need to unplug any relays or fuses. The keep alive memory is erased when you flash the vehicle. I know it states do so in the instructions but trust me it isn't necessary. If interested in tuning contact me. I feel confident you won't be dissatisfied.

Most of the time you won't see small Ford truck platforms running a chip, they run flash tuning setups instead. The j-ports on the computer are known for not being connected. Another benefit is if you want to change the tune with a flash tuner, just get sent a tune email and load into the SCT device. With a chip you have to remove the computer and send to a dealer.-j
