I saw a link to this underdrive pulley somewhere the other day but I forget where. I went to the site and this thing looks like it might be a good investment for those of us looking for a little more horsepower. It's $125 and is said to increase HP by 10-30. Does anyone have this on their X? Any word on if it actually does anything? Here's the link

I know on some SHO'sthe AC shuts off when accelerating hard...is this anything like that, or is that something completely different?

Also...for those of us with high power audio systems, would this cause a problem?!
Thanks!

I have the underdrive pulleys on my Mustang and S10 and the amp guage is a little lower but I havent had any problems. Also, the temp might be slightly higher since the pulleys slow down the water pump, but I installed a 180* thermostat which is something you should be using anyway. They do free up 10-15 hp. They took off a tenth in my Mustang's quarter mile times. one tenth equals 10-15 hp. Pulleys and gears are the best "bang for the buck" performance mods. I definately recommend them. Oh, I just ordered the pulleys for my 5.0 Explorer. They are cheaper here:

What kind of stereo do you have in these vehicles? And what about the 180 thermostat thing...where can I find one of those and what does it do? Thanks for the unput :)

What effect will the 180 thermostat have on the engines computer?

Thanks....

I have a 300 watt stereo system in my S10 and Explorer. I have a 500 watt system in my Mustang. The pulleys haven't caused any charging problems and i still have the original alternators.

The 180* thermostat can be purchased at Auto Zone, Pep Boys etc. It just allows the engine to run a little cooler. Its a good thing to have if you do heavy offroading or racing, which can tend to overheat the vehicle. Most of the Mustang guys use them and I bet some of the offroaders here, do too. It still allows the engine to warm up enough not to cause a conflict with the computer.

To help out what RTStork said, a thermostat is s device that senses heat and opens at a certain tempature to allow cold coolant to go into your engine. The lower the tempature that you thermosta opens, the cooler your engine will run. But it will take longer to warm up when it has not been runnung.

Or something like that.
