Sadly, this happens all the time.

A similar study was conducted by a news channel in Indianapolis, and uncovered the exact same results. These quick-lube places are doing this all the time.

The study performed in Indy confirmed that customers were paying a lot extra for synthetic oil and not getting it. They were just using the same old standard crap they put in everything else. Many of the places didn't even have the synthetic oil there to use.

Just another good reason to do your own maintenance, as I have always done, and always will do.

...thats not new...i think it's posted on here somewhere...but i got some new info...the mechanic around the corner from me is putting an engine in a 2000 ranger and jiffy lube is picking up the tab...
...appearantly the guy took it in for an oil change and they drained the oil, put the plug back in, and forgot to put the oil in...

I had a friend who went to a quick lube, and they forgot to put the oil cap back on. His engine got a little oily on the way home:bsnicker:

If you want something done right, do it yourself

How the crap do you forget to put oil in?

My dad told me about someone who got a new Jasper motor to put in a car, started it up, and was loud as hell. Pulled the motor, opened it up, and realized they forgot the rod bearings  Jasper denied the claim, saying that they test all their motors. I guess they eventually gave in a gave him a new one though.

...i asked my mechanic buddy what jiffy lube paid for the engine and he said they have insurance for this kind of thing and access to used motors, same day delivery...the motor had 80,000 mi. on it and it was 800 bucks...now again, this was all sent to my buddies shop by jiffy lube...

I went to a jiffy lube and the "mechanic" came out to me while I was waiting for my oil to be changed with a blotter, on it was burnt trans fluid he said was from my car. He asked if I wanted them to change the trans fluid also. I akked him if he was sure it came from my vehicle and he replied yes and pointed to my car on the lifr. I asked him to get me another sample from it and he did. The only problem is that my car had 90 weight gear oil in it and did not use trans fluid. I told them to get it off the lift and a few choice words:D
