Well I have decided to do the swap by the end of this summer. That will give me plenty of time to research here and also time to shop for parts.
I am sure I will have plenty of questions for you guys during this time.
My first question is this. My buddy has a 91 F150 4x4 crew cab with a broken frame. I was just wondering if any parts off of his rig would work for my swap. Front drive shaft, Shifter lever etc. From what I understand, Only 97 and up will work but I figured it was worth asking seeing how the price would be right.
Thanks
JIGA

I'll go out on a limb here (410fortune will smack me down if Im wrong):D

I don't believe the 91 has a BW4406. If it does it wont work becase the tranny output will be different. The 91 probably has an AOD. It definately does not have 4R70W.

You are looking for the 4406 manual shift t case from a 4.6 or 5.4L equipped F-150 97-2001

Sounds like you need to read the conversion threads and write down some notes, the transmission in your 5.0L explorer will only bolt up to so many t cases and that 91 F-150 is a no go

Glad to hear you're joining the 4406 crowd. I'll be doing my swap hopefully by the end of the month. And I will be updating my thread as time goes on. There's an amazing wealth of knowledge on the forum, definitely worth the time to read through the threads.

Yes I am aware that my buddys 91 f150 t-case will not work for me. The question I was asking was would the front drive shaft work for me ( I am guessing no ) Or simple things like the shifter lever. I just figured I would see if anything off of his truck would be useful to me before it hits the boneyard. I have read the conversion threads a few times and plan on reading many more times over the next couple of months. Maybe I just did'nt word my first post in the right fashion. But yes I am well aware of the T-case not being a match for me nor would I want it due to its age and condition.
Thanks for the input though, Looking forward to more of it down the stretch as it will be needed and appreciated.
Thanks again

I wish! No basically to do the conversion all the parts you can use are listed in the conversion threads for a bolt in conversion

The 91 t case I believe is a 1356, totally different animal the way it shifts and for both driveshaft connections.

Parts for a bolt in conversion come from 4.6L and 5.4L equipped trucks only because these trucks use the same/similar 4r70w transmission and 4x4 tailhousing your explorer has. The front IFS is also spaced the same from the t case so the front driveshaft will bolt in using the hybrid u joint. These trucks also use a 8.8 rear end so the rear driveshaft has the correct yoke to bolt up to your pinion.

Ok.. got you.....The word ALL in the above quote clears up alot for me.

and for both driveshaft connections.
And that was the answer I was looking for there.
Thanks a bunch for clearing that up for me.

Try to get a rear driveshaft from an air susp Navigator. I beleive, but am not 100% that they use the heavier duty 1350 U joints. The non-air susp uses the 1330. Something to keep in mind.
