Joining the bandwagon, my 4L OHV build

try a long thin metal item like a screw driver
use it as a chisel on one of the clutch nut crowns and it should pop the nut loose with a few taps of a hammer.

Yea it depends on what your using.

yea ill clean it up afterwards. sandblasting is safe for the parts tho? lower intake, block, idler bracket?

ill have to try a screwdriver then. or bang the vise grips with the hammer. dumb water pump :(
if all else fails, ill just destroy the fan to where i can get that last bolt out. its not really worth saving as its frayed like the belt was hitting it or something

have fun with the dirty parts lol. they soaked in ~30% simple green for 2 days, rinsed with the highest pressure i could do with the hose and then wiped down

You need a soft media to blast aluminum, intake parts.

Yes
and since you are sprying an abrasive your parts will need to be powerwashed very well afterward. You don't want that stuff inside your engine.
You will not be able to keep it out, no matter how hard you try.

Then you have a flash rust problem so that is why I recommend just a good hot power-wash to begin with. For painting it will be good enough I bet, and, you will not risk damage to the gasket surface of the intake.
The easy off in a blue can will bubble up powdercoating, and, is made to clean baked in grease. JUst spray it on inside a plastic tub. let it soak overnight. Give it another coat and soak for about an hour, then, take the tub to the car wash. Wear eye protection just in case you get some back spray in your face.

yea wasnt thinking of the sand getting stuck in there, all those coolant passages and crap.
i guess ill just do the oven cleaner then.
lol at having a engine block in a large tub at the car wash(unless a better idea comes up)

thanks turdle! lower intake is 98% clean, a couple spots left in the inside. anything i can do about the rust in the coolant areas? thermostat passage is full of surface rust.
i need to post a pic of a nick on the gasket surface for the valve cover on the lower intake. dont know it itll leak or not.

water pump is off! so it is possible to get it off with the fan still on.
i will no be using a mechanical fan again, just cause its so hard to get the water pump out with it on

no more fan picture. i threw the water pump/fan across the yard when i finally got it off lol

painted items. waiting for the lower intake to dry and ill paint that

Need to strip the pain from the inside of the fuel rail though.hhaaaa i bet you trashed that fan and exhaust manifolds

damnit.... i never even thought of masking that off

no, later in the day i chucked in the the corner in the garage. ill try and sell the pump and fan as a whole lol. manifolds are still attached to the old heads. ill prob cut the bolts off and sell them. im gonna sell anything i can.

once again i need another part. i lost the plastic ring that was under the tb's electronics :(

I have a complete upper and lower at my house.i can give you any part you need.hell if i was you i would takea the lower to my guy and have him port the sh** out of it.alot of power to gain there and pretty cheap

ive been thinking about porting... heads already line up to the gaskets. lower intake doesnt on the head side. only issue i see is the headers have a metal ring around the inside and dont allow the whole thing to contact the head and the gaskets dont really fit. prob need jba gaskets, but that ring still doesnt seem right

do you have that tb part? it was gray and looked like my fuel/ac disconnect tools. right under the tb sensor.

Yea the lower intake can use ALOT of porting!! Im sure i do,im out at the bar now but will check tomorrow, if so its yours!

jd or anyone else, will this hoist hold the engine? when it goes back in the truck itll be fully assembled so it needs to handle that
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/ac...&fromString=search&itemIdentifier=123037_0_0_

im sick of no one being able to get one. im just gonna buy the damn thing. try and return it if i can, if not sell it after im done.

and jd, i have thursday off and next monday off. if this hoist works, please say you can bring your whole arsenal of stuff to help get the engine out.
