Joining the bandwagon, my 4L OHV build

No prob! Yes you have to spin the motor to get to all 4 sure you knew that.take those trans bolts out,it wont go anywhere.heads need to go back on and exhaust maifolds need to be off.thats where the brackets mount to pull the motor

how do i spin the motor? stick a screwdriver in the hole and spin it? grab a pulley and spin?
i saw people saying to get all the trans bolts they needed to remove the crossmember and lower the trans? i dont really wanna pull a brandon....
and yes ill put the other head back on

Put a socket on the crank and spin it.no i put a wrench on the top two bolts or like a 3foot extension to get to them

crank as in the big pulley under water pump?
extensions i can do. what will be holding the trans up? just the crossmember?

whats the best way to see the hole from the starter? or do i just have to feel for them?
do you know the size socket for all those?

ummm is the pulley on the water pump just related to the fan or is it needed for the pump? cause none of the new pumps have pulleys

Yes, the pulley on the pump is what lets the crankshaft turn both the fan and the pump.

do you have any idea if new pumps come with one? none specify if they do or dont. if they dont the only one i see for sale is from stuffforyourranger.com for $45
i realllllyy dont feel like separating that crap for the pulley

Yep and yep.there is dowls inthe block and they will be pretty hard to separate, when you pull the motor a jack stand needs to go under the trans so you can go ahead and put it there if you feel safer.i would try a wrench first, you can see them with the lower intake off, hell i would take the trans bolts out before you put the heads back on.spin the motor and look through the starter hole as your doing it and just stop when the nut gets in the middle.i think they were something crazy like 12mm or something cant remember now

I'll throw my underdrive one in the same shipment as the electric fan if you want it. Just bolts up the same way the stock one does. You do need the bolts though.....not sure if the new pump comes with them

That may be an underdrive pulley, stay away from that.isnt there four bolts that hold all that on there,i thought the big nut just remove the fan from its mount.i dont remember getting anything special to remove mine that or i allready had it.idk

I wouldnt want it on there,as you and me both found out ud the water pump is not the best thing to do

yea i can see the top two from above i think, cant remember. ill have to actual look for the starter, cause all i can remember right now is where to feel for it when under the truck

ronin, wouldnt underdrive slow the pump and the cooling would be less effective?

Yeah I'm just givin it away at this point. I didn't know if he was keeping the stock crank pulley, in which case he's prob be alright with just a UD water pump.

^^ exactly!!

Underdriving everything with the crank pulley doesn't seem to cause problems, it's when you do both that and the water pump....turns the water pump too slow.

If you have a stock crank pulley an UD water pump pulley might still be ok.

Like I said I'm just giving it away so you're welcome to try it or not. I'd still keep that stock pulley in case though

Maybe it is reverse thread.im sure i got something to get it off.i would save money till we try

well if i need those bolts out... damn this stupid fan! lol

possibly, i never did try the other direction, i learned my lesson when i was upside down and confused and tightened the exhaust y-pipe bolt, along with rounding it off except one good spot, making it a pain in the ass lol
maybe a shop installed one for rightly loosey, lefty tighty and left the old fan shroud in. that would suck lol

heat would work.... but i broke the knob off and i never figured out howto light it! lol (gas kept blowing the lighter out no matter how i tried lol)
