I was looking at my 03 headlights today, and wondering if anyone has rigged their high beams to be daytime running lights and still retained the high beam function for nighttime? They way the lights are built, it seems the high beam would make a good daytime running light. I don't have a model that had this included.

Anybody done this mod?

Thanks.

I think running your high beams as daytime running lights would accomplish a number of things:

Put uneccesary excess wear on your alternator

Put unecessary wear on the high beams themselves, which really need to work when you need them.

Someone on this forum should be able to confirm that driving around with your brights on can probably get you a ticket in most states.

I always drive around with my fog lights on during the day. The parking lights need to be engaged if you don't mod it but i think its safer driving around during the day this way. According to the insurance agencies: cars that utilize daytime running lamps are 50% less likely to get into car accidents during the day.

If your truck lacks fogs, get over to your local parts stores and wire some babies up to your front!

And also piss people off. No need for high beams during the day. If you want lights just turn your headlights on.

Might want to check your state laws before doing this mod.

Guys,

Montana has no laws about what I am asking, I have checked. The reason I want the auto DRL is due to to the fact, I get a discount on my auto insurance, I know that the Canadian versions of this vehicle have DRL, either the park lamps if you have HID, or the low beams if you have Halogens.

Currently I have xenons at 5900K temp, I would even be happy just to have the factory set up, but the confusion on how to do this, is amazing, I know that my owners manual shows the fuse as well as relay location for the Canadian vehicles, which I have both of those receptacles, but I am unsure about the DRL module and where it goes.

I know the newer vehicles have to be turned on by the Dealership, but have not seen mention of that on the 03 models.

I know on this particular year, it is not dependent on a sensor, I do not have fogs, or auto lights, this is an XLS model.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks

Throw a piece of paper or tape over your auto headlight sensor. It'll think it's dark out all the time and essentially be daytime running lamps. Cheap and effective. Problem solved.

EDIT: Just read your last post and saw you don't have auto lights. Honestly I wouldn't go through and screw with your headlight wiring too much. Just make a habit of turning them on as soon as you get in the car.

I normally do that anyway, but it does not get me the discount on my insurance, which in the state I live in, is quite substantial, Montana has some of the highest insurance rates in the county, so consequently, they have some of the largest discounts as well.

As I said, I know the parts are available, the truck is wired for them, I guess I just need to find them.

Thanks guys.
