Just bought '95 XLT - questions about tranny

I bought a 1995 Explorer XLT 4X4 this week and was wondering how to tell which tranny I have in it. I have heard some bad things about the tranny's. It has a tranny cooler on it and the transmission seems to shift fine. What should I look out for as far as warning signs from the tranny? Anything else I should be aware of? Thanks in advance.

Is the tranny cooler or aftermarket? If its just an auxillary one on the radiator you can buy a B&M one from summitt for like $50 for added protection. Those coolers help out a lot. Switching to synthetic fluid might help your transmission out also. I plan on putting my Amsoil in within the next few weeks.
