Hello, I'm semi new to Fords but I picked up this '93 explorer from a friend for real cheap. It's going to make a great ranch truck! I'm having fuel problems that I hope yall can help me out with. Thanks in advance

Thank yall. I had a Ford guy come look at it and he thinks it's the computer acting up. Maybe it has a virus?

well I hate to say it but I have never seen a computer start acting up. They either work or don't, and I'm a master tech at a Ford dealership. You might have other wiring problems but your computer is not likely to just act up. Dont give up easily! We're all here to help! Whats wrong with it?

Well, that's what I meant, acting up as in no bueno.

When it first broke down maybe 15 months ago my friend told me to come look at it. First thing I did was check for spark, no spark. The guy who owned it knew nothing about cars. He ended up replacing the fuel filter, the cam position sensor, the crank position sensor, got the coils tested, who knows what else he did to it. He ran out of money and got his license suspended so it sat at his dad's. His dad moved and needed the car gone ASAP so I said I'd take it to help them out. My friend said it had to be the fuel pump since that was the only thing he didn't replace. So I bought a fuel pump (forgetting that it had no spark) but I decided to test for power before I put the tank back in. I know, I should have tested for power before I bought a pump but I live 15 miles from an auto parts store so I bought one while I was in town.

So, as far as I can tell, it has no spark and no power at the fuel pump. The relays and fuses are all good. Battery is good enough, the car will turn over and over again, no spark, no power at fuel pump.

I'd keep working on it but I found a guy selling a '64 Dodge pick up with a 440 in it for cheap so why mess with this thing when I could have a big block? haha

I'd love to get this thing running so I can put a grill guard on it and got plowing through the trees down at my ranch with no worries but I've got so many other things to work on.

hhmmm....thats a hard choice. big blocks are nice. but you already paid for the ex and the problem could turn out to be something really stupid simple...then you could turn around and sell it as a great running truck and make some money off it. if it were me id check the ignition switch and the pcm fuse/relay. normally fuses and pcms dont just blow out unless theres a reason so start simple....mechanical things wear out and break.....ingnition switches wear out and relays stick. i think i read on another thread that you tried a relay already. did you check the ignition switch? did you check to see if the coil is getting power....not if its putting power out to the plugs but is the smaller plug on the side of the coil getting power? grab some wiring diagrams and check it out...its really not as hard as some people think.

I'll check for power at the coil. I don't think I've done that yet.

Mechanical parts wear out, yes. But it takes time and when they wear out, you know exactly what's wrong. Electronics don't always work 2 days after you buy them.

Thanks for the help

My first thought after I found the fuses and relays to be ok was "maybe the ignition switch is bad???" I don't know though, how can I check that?

SOLD!!!! I'm goin to look at the big block '64 tomorrow.
