there is a 4x4 shift fuse in your fuse box yes, check that

why did you change the shift motor? I vote install the old one and see if the touch button 4x4 works again

Most likely could be:
wiring got messed up during trans install
neutral safety for 4x4 shift wire is not hooked up
bad t case motor

hey there where would i find the netrual safety switch wire? i switched t case's cause the other 1 was stuck in 4x4.

oh by the way the guy i bought it from converted to a manual so he might have done something to wiring lol

t cases, fine but you didnt have to switch the shift motor, try your old one.

Neatral safety is part of the transmission and transmission wiring,. if you didnt mess with it and it didnt get pinched when you installed the new trans then I would skip this.

My $$$ is on the new T case shift motor being FUBAR'ed, I have 5 of these in my garage, one works... the one I rebuilt

What?
You said you replaced your transmission, truck is moving, but 4x4 doesnt work...
now the guy you bought the truck from converted it from auto to manual?

When you install a 5 speed into an auto truck there is a bit of wiring to do, yes this wiring could cause your 4x4 to not work.
This is not a good thing.

Did the 4x4 EVER work with the 5 speed?

update lol i think i found the problem

k here is the story behind me finding this awesome site. i found a 94 explorer on kijiji for sale it has a 3 inch body lift and a custom supension lift. it has 33" yokohama mud diggers on it with about 60 % tread left. great it needs a new transmission nothing for me. k i buy it , buy a used transmission for 150 canadian from a guy who wrecked his. i puty it in get it working then come top find out i dont have 4x4 so i gt another elecxtronic shift motor ( and transfer case) fronm the guy that i got the transmission from. 20 dollars for both lol i cant go wrong. i get it all hooked up yesteday and still no 4x4 . well here is where it gets interesting . thank you explotrations for being here . i did a search for troubleshooting 4x4. awesome thread. it tells me to test the module if it is good it is the transfer case..., so i did insterad of getting 4 or 5 beeps i got a solid red light for about 15 seconds. so it is the module. i go to take it out and there is something rattling inside. i got a new module and if i am thinkingright i now have 2 transfer cases both good and 3 shift motors. lol i found another 1 that looks pretty well new in one of the rear compartmentslol. i think the guy i bought it from thought he killed the 4x4 completely that is why i only paid 800 for the truck. lol the joke is on him thanks explorations. you guys rock.

wow that is a kick in the teeth, truck wont turn over

k well i got to ****y last night saying everything should be fine now the truck wont turn over. i have a fully charged 1000 amp , 850 cca battery but i turn the key on and it just clicks once that is it any suggestions?
i touched the sileinoid with a skrewdriver and nothing not even a cclick which makes me believe it might be bad but if that was the case is there anyway to test it. the starter worked great before i parked a day and a half ago but now this. please help

Check the wiring to the starter, its likely loose somewhere
If its clicking it is getting juice, just not enough

Also the starter gets its ground through the transmission bellhousing/engine SO you need to have all your battery ground cables hooked up and all ground straps as well.

If the starter is on its way out it you may need to tap it a few times with a hammer to "jar" it into making better electrical contact. This is exactly how my 2 starters failed over the years... IMO once this starts happening it only gets worse..

BTW when you tested the 4x4 module did you remove the appropriate connectors prior to testing? With everything hooked up, do you hear any relay noises when you press 4x4? Does your speedometer work?

this forum rocks

hi there sure enough i rebuilt the little red wire that runs down to the starter. and bam it turned right over. i decided to see how far down the corrosion went and it was about 1 and a half feet of black wire then it went back to good cooper. my brother actually only had one kind of red wire lol and it was the right gauge talk about lucky. so once again thank you everyone for all your help.

as for the 4x4 working before i replaced the transmission. i dont know i bought the truck with a blown transmission so i never really got to drive it before i replaced the transmission. so far though following the troubleshooting 4x4 on here i went to the module and pressed the test lighted up 15 seconds then nothing so i shock it, it made a rattle found out a resistor was busted off inside. switched module now still no 4x4 so i will be troubleshooting once i get the truck home. at least it is 2 hi instead of 4 hi.

so anyways any suggestions are a great help.

k here is a update on this beast

i left ontario on friday evening driving all night. truck ran great. saturday morning i pull over and take a nape. i wake up start driving through quebec (it is french and i am english). i am almost all the way through quebec and the truck dies on the side of the road. my serpintine belt ws being shredded. so ok i can make it to new brunswick where i can find a english town to buy new parts. lol not
50 km's after the truck dies the first time it is now over heating and there is no belt left lol. so i end up paying 150 dollars for a tow truck cause no one would pick me up hicking. so i buy the new belt and tensioner pulley( mine was barely there. goto put on new belt wrong 1, napa was closed.lmao i go into canadian tire they have the right belt goto pay for it i lost my bank card. i dont use credit cards and guess what i paid cash for the tow truck. so my girlfriend has to drive 5 hourse each way to bring me a new altenator for 260 dollars. hmmmm i dont know about this truck lol. after all the help you guys were and then this lol.ah i still love the truck though i found another 5 and a half inch lift for it for 550 . that would give it 12 inches roughly of inch lol
. so can any one tell me what wires i need to connect to the reverse sensor to get back up lights?
anyways everyone thank you again
