Just got a 2012 Ford Explorer Limited, LOVE IT! Missing center console on second row

I have lived without the console for a couple of months. One nice thing about NOT having it is that the overhead luggage I use for airline travel fits perfectly between the seats and it about the right height. So when traveling by Explorer, it gives me a bit more storage this way.

Just trying to make lemonade out of lemons.

Maybe Ford customer service will see these posts and perhaps offer a complete console aftermarket for those of us who realize what we are missing. Of course at a reasonable price.

Captains chairs have arm rests. What Ford is selling is "bucket seats". (I say potato, you say.....)LOL.
I guess they save money by not having arm rests or making it another option. Think they would at least bring it to your attention when ordering. Also if you have arm rests a think the pass thru would be narrow or nonexistant.
With second row buckets down the console is pretty well flat.
Love the console. Extra storage space....

Nevermind

I have the centre arm rest

I have the centre arm rest, but I was actually looking to see if this can be replaced by a centre seat? I know you can unbolt the 2nd Row centre console, but is there a seat you can bolt into its place?

Why didn't you just buy the bench seat in the first place?????

Welcome to the Forum Baroni. :wavey:
There is no 'bolt in' center seat that Ford offers as an option. The center position in the bench I have is also very narrow and I think would be very uncomfortable, especially for an adult. I believe you are the first to ask this question.
To help answer future concerns/question you may have, it would be very helpful if you added the model you have so it will show along with 2012 Ford Explorer in the left column. Not all answers apply to all models.

I'm assuming he wanted the siding option of the buckets. In any case, I think he is out of luck trying to find a center seat to install along with the required seatbelts.

We have just gotten used to no center console.. as I posted before, it makes for great storage when on a trip.. we dont have more than 2 in the car very often, so it has worked out ok.. would have preferred the console, but eh, am ok..

We bought the car second hand, we only needed 6 seats but wondered if we could get one more?
We have the limited and we love it!!!

I don't get it. There's just a gap between the seats? I thought the center console was part of the package.

I got into an explorer limited in the dealer that had 2nd row bucket seats. Why doesn't ford offer arm rests on these seats? It felt so incomplete sitting on those seats without an armrest or console.

I guessing that the arm rests might interfere with opening the console. I haven't seen one so I'm not sure about that. The console, when ordered, acts as the arm rest. I suppose it all has to do with $$. Perhaps it is a way of getting people to order the console as well as having to manufacture only one kind of 2nd row buckets (if my first sentence is correct).

Hi Baroni,

We don't currently offer an "add-on" seat for the center space between the two second row buckets.

Hi jc_slick,

One of the reasons this seating configuration doesn't have armrests or a console is to improve access to the third row. If there are new features or seating configurations you'd like to see in future Explorer models, I encourage you to post your thoughts to the "Your Ideas" tab of http://social.ford.com. Ideas can be voted on and are reviewed daily.
