2011 Ford Explorer
Hi all,
I'm a new Explorer owner, I just bought a 2011 recently, having returned to Ford after many years spent with the Japanese and the Germans. I decided it was time to come home, so to speak.

This is a great site and has already been very informative for me, so, thanks for that. But, now I've got a rather silly question for you all, and it stems from the fact that I keep my cars a good long time - my last vehicle was a 2003 Subaru that I bought new, so things have changed a lot since I got that car.

My question is this: Should the battery on the Explorer be disconnected when charging it? Sorry if that sounds stupid, but given all the electronics in the vehicle, etc, and the various things I've read, I'm not sure anymore. So, I'm coming to the source, looking for guidance on this. I want to charge the battery because I'm getting the low battery message when the ignition is shut off, so I want to charge it up one time.

Thanks in advance for clearing this up for me.

PS - if anyone is interested in removing the third row seats but not the brace, I've found it's very simple...just a couple screws and four bolts per seat. I'm going to use the hinge hardware to make a new cover for the well that will be lockable using the original latches. But, that's a completely different story.

You don't have to disconnect the battery to charge it.

Okay, thanks for the info.

One more thing, does that apply only to "trickle chargers" or can I use the recharge - higher amperage - setting that way as well?

Thanks again!

There's no difference.
