I just put my new shocks on my 92 Explorer. I went with the Rancho RS 9000s and I love them already. I just wanted to say thanks to all the great advise from the people on this page. You all helped a lot. Thanks again.

Zim,

I knew you'd like them. What setting are you using them on?

I am considering getting the rancho 9000s. How much are 4 of them (for a 5.5 lift) with the adjuster thingy? I am not sure about my shocks and Im wondering if these are good ones. WHat setting is best for city driving?
thanks

Kial,
I can answer 2 of your questions..

The air adjustment is $150 at Dick Cepek here in Tucson (in the store.. not sure of mail order)

As for the Setting... We use 4 since we don't have sway bars but we set it on 2 when we drive around Aqua Prieta, Mexico. If we had sway bars we would run 3 on the street.

whats the air adjustment? the module for adjusting the shocks? How much are the shocks and the module to adjust them, lik ethe whole package?
Would a 3 setting be the most comfortable ride on road? do I have to get a air tank?

thanks for the help

Kial

I'm bought 4 from National Tire & Wheel for $61.00 each. Mine were for an Explorer without a lift but I'm pretty sure they are all $61.00. I looked around for awile and thats the cheapest I could find them. I didn't get the in cab controller because it was around $120 more for it. I think I will add it later. The shocks run off it and you don't need to add an air tank. I'm running them on setting 3 on the road and love the ride. The wife thinks its to stiff so I have been setting it on 2 if shes driving for the day. That seems to keep her happy. Thanks again everyone.

Kial,
Getting the Shocks with the In Cab adjuster is like getting Tires and Rims at the same time. It is just something you add when you get them. The adjustment kit is a very small air compressor, guage and air lines. You replace the knob adjuster (2 screws to remove it) on the shock with a connector for the air line. Personally I like a stiffer ride so a setting of 3 on the street would be nice for highway ride if you still have your sway bars. If you don't have them.. don't try 3.. too unsafe a highway speeds (I tried it once and when I hit some wierd ruts on the freeway the truck got real unhappy). I normally see the shocks locally at Dick Cepek for around $140 a pair (on sale for less). Check with different places.. one might give you a discount if you get 4 shocks and the in cab adjuster.

Hope that clears things up..

Zim,
So you dont need the adjuster air thingey to actually adjust the shocks? I thought you would need it. Im probably going to get it with the shocks, but how hard / much is the install?? Thanks for all your help, I have sway bar so I need the most comfyest setting for normal driving, and then which setting should I use for offroading or does it all depend on the terrain? thank you

Kial

You can check out the system here: Dead Link Removed

You do not need to get the in-cab system witht the shocks, but the total package costs just under $300. If you check out any Four Wheel Drive magazines you can find them for sale anywhere.

Thanks Guys,
When it comes down to it I probably wont get the control board just becuase of the lack of money I have. The switches sound fine though, I dont do that much offroading so mo worries at all. Of course its not hard to upgrade to the in cab right? Thanks for all your help, hopefully my explorer will look good, and preforme even better Dead Link Removed .

No you don't need to get the in cab controller. If you don't get it there are knobs on the shock for adjustment. Just reach inside the wheel well and turn it to what you want. Its that easy. The in cab controller is nice but if you aren't changing the settings that much you really don't need it. As for installing the controller I really don't know. I've never put one on. I know a lot of other people on this page have them so I'm sure some one here can answer that one. Hope this helps.
