Just joined and need help

I have a 1999 Ford Explorer with almost 300K miles. 5-liter V8 and it has pretty much every bell and whistle you could order back then. I was rear ended, and my lift gate had to be replaced. Now my Overdrive will not work, the outside mirrors no longer light up when a door is open and the automatic door locks no longer work. The repair place makes the 3 stooges look like master mechanics so hesitate to take it back to them.
I suspect that they may have pulled some fuses because when I was rear ended the lift door couldn't close right and the lights under the mirrors were on all the time. I had to disconnect the battery so it would not be drained. They probably did the same thing only with fuses.
I tried to look at online fuse diagrams but with my 71 year old eyes have trouble seeing the writing and cannot find the fuse(s) that work the non-working electrics.
I forgot to mention, the door locks work with inside switch and key fob just will not automatically lock when you put the car in drive.
I just went to the Ford dealership and the Service laughed at me and told me they don't touch cars that old and cannot get most parts. He tried to convince me to get a new car.

Any suggestions?

Do you have an owners manual ? The fuse locations are pretty clear in them.. I'm heading for 72 in July and understand your situation. I find myself using a flash light, headlamp and magnifying glass at times.

I bought the car used and so no manual. I have gone online and looked at the pix of fuse panels there but cannot figure out which fuses do what. I went to the Ford Dealership and the service guy laughed at me and told me they don't touch cars that old unless it is just an oil change and they cannot get parts for it even if they did work on old cars. He gave me a card for some guy who works out of his back yard and repairs old cars.

1. The dealership have inexperience tech servicing there vehicle. They where probably changing oil last week.
2. You stated the hatch was replaced. There are a few posts on the rear hatch and rear light problems search the forum for them.
3. I read on the forum that's the tow function, blows the fuse.
4. The distribution box #4 is located behind the driver side rear cargo area. Between the removable panel where the jack is and the driver rear door. ( see JC response : door locks not working)
5. I believe JC talked about the fuses. When the Trailer harness get damaged it shorts out and blows the fuse.
6. Did they give the keyless entry code?. You need that code to reprogram the pin code too what you like.
7. Even with the battery disconnect the door keyless entry code stay in the memory.
I will post the procedure .

NOTE

NOTE: All keyless entry remote transmitters (15K601) are programmable and must be set at the same time.

NOTE

NOTE: To program (or reprogram) the keyless entry remote transmitters into the RAP module, perform the following steps:

Make sure that the anti-theft system is not armed or triggered.

Turn the ignition switch (11572) from OFF to RUN eight times within ten seconds, ending in RUN. If the RAP module hassuccessfully entered program mode, it will lock and then unlock all doors.

Press any button on a keyless entry remote transmitter, and the doors will lock and then unlock to confirm that eachkeyless entry remote transmitter has been programmed.

If the door locks do not respond for any keyless entry remote transmitter, wait several seconds and press the buttonagain. If the door locks still fail to respond, refer to Diagnosis and Testing.

Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, or wait up to 20 seconds after step 2, to exit program mode. If a keylessentry remote transmitter has been programmed (or reprogrammed), the RAP module will lock and unlock all doors one last time toconfirm.

The multifunction modules consist of the following:
generic electronic module (GEM)/central timer module (CTM)
remote anti-theft personality (RAP) module (15K602)
The remote anti-theft personality (RAP) module controls the keyless entry, and computer operated locks systems.

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Module —Remote Anti-Theft Personality (RAP)
Removal

CAUTION
CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to electrical charges. If exposed to these static charges, damage may result.
Disconnect the battery ground cable.
Remove the LH rear quarter trim panel; refer to Interior Trim and Ornamentation.
Disconnect the two remote anti-theft personality (RAP) module electrical connectors.
Remove the two RAP module fasteners.
Remove the RAP module.
Installation
NOTE

NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 mi) or more to relearn the strategy.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.

You can also turn the auto locks on and off as shown in this video.

The trailer pigtail can be removed by disconnecting it. It’s under the car up in the body by the taillight. Both of mine were on the passenger side, though I’ve heard of them on the drivers side.
