91 Exploder Sport
I told fastcoug several months ago I would keep him updated on this. Heres my story. The 91 sploder was diagnosed w/ a bad head/gasket over a year ago. I kept driving it anyway until getting contamination in the oil. This is where it gets interesting. W/ the help of this site (much much thanks) I found all the info I needed and then some.
I emailed vanir w/ no response for several weeks, then out of nowhere he responded to the questions I had asked. Wich was what do you recomend for mild top end rebuild. Sven said "98tm heads to increase flow and bump compression 1 point, 70-75 MAFS, larger throttle body, K&N and one of our 410 grind cams. This will give you a nice upgrade in power and torque".
Before this turns into a complete novel I will just summarize the rest.
Heads: (from a place I will refer to as Crapa autoparts) YR 93 cost $816.35
Short block: (from evergreen engine exchange)(ordered from a place I affectionatly call schmucks) w/out cam (not typical) $787. -$75 core.
From Vanir: 70mm MAF $219.48, 24lb injectors $334.50, 410 grind cam (the one that does not require longer pushrods, sorry I cant find part # at time of typing) $283.50.
From performancecombos.com: BBK 66mm throttle body $199.95, KKM air filter kit $129.00, Venom PCM 359.95 (My garage would not install and I havent had time to yet.)
Misc parts: head bolts/gaskets $149., lifters $202., rockers $174., pushrods $82.,
I have had my 500 mile oil change and every thing works good so far. My seat of the pants meter says there is definitly a good size power improvement. I wish I had a dyno to figure $$ spent to HP gained.
ALL PARTS = 4091.50 LABOR =1417.00 TOTAL 5508.50
Much thanks to my wife for her understanding. :)
I hope some of you can find benefit or just gain wisdom from this....

$5,508.50???

Can you say "I could of had a V-8"...:D

a BIG FAT V8!!! hindsight is 20/20, forsight not so good.

Though an OHV with new heads and a cam is a great motor. About as good as a run-of-the-mill 5.0.
