Has anyone fitted a K&N filter to the SOHC, if so are the results worth while, I ws thinking of fiiting a 41/2" universal K&M directly to the MAF and making an adaptor, or does anyone make a kit to do this.

I, as well as numerous others on this board. use the KKM filter kit.

I feel it definately works.

Good luck.....

If you read the thread about 15 posts down..

I wrote about dropping in a K&N air filter and modifying the airbox for maximum air flow.

I don't see mathematically how the KKM filter kit will perform better than the K&N IF you modify the airbox..

THen the restriction will be the size of the MAF itself.
Seems like the airbox will draw cooler air down by the headlight than a KKM attached to the MAF.

I'm posting my gas mileage results in the other thread.

I droped in the K&N and left it stock for a while and didn't really notice any difference. then I removed the restricting tube on the box and ran it for awhile, I noticed an improvement, then I just cut the side out of my box, I noticed a definate increase in power, plus it just sounds so cool .. I guess my next investment will be duel exaust...

I sent K&N an e-mail asking when they were releasing a kit to compete with the KKM. The person at K&N told me that it was supposed to be released right around now, but due to the mess in NYC, CARB approval is very slow. They are anticipating release of a Gen II kit, fully CARB approved in Q1 2002. For now I'm modifying my stock air box and holding my breath.

This one is the best I've seen

Thanks

Thanks you for all your replies, I think I will go for the K&N Panel Filter and Modify the Air Box, and await the Gen II kit from K&N.

Follow up

Has any one any pictures of the modified air box to see how and where to modify it.

There is no "set" way to do it. Basically just take a dremel and start cutting. There are little frames through out the box and you could just cut all the flat plastic out from between them.
I didn't want to have a problem with sucking in hot air from the engine or getting water in the intake, so I just took a 1/2" drill and drilled holes in the bottom and back of the box. Some people have cut the entire box up.

Old news

The prototype Volant intake has been in the news for a while. I have sent numerous e-mails to Volant to find out when and how much, and they keep saying "end of next quarter". I assume they are having the same problem with CARB approval that K&N is.

The Volant does look really freaking cool. I wonder if the clear cover will make it into production, probably not.

Expect this kit to cost in the high $200s. Volant is expensive.

I would prefer a kit from iceman. They already do a lot for Ford Racing and Roush and have a very interesting concept.

The way I cut mine out was, after removing the restricting tube I used a jig saw and cut from the fins ( left them there ) down to the bottom and to the edges, creating a large clean cut rectangular hole in the front of the box where the tube used to be. right now I'm working on a frame that will have a wire mesh screen to mount over the hole to keep out larger debris, like leaves and bugs that get sucked into the open box...

The Intake on Ebay

Hey guyz,
Does anyone on here actually have the kit that sold for $185.00 on Ebay? I was looking at it and thinking that the metal/chrome tubing would be absorbing alotta heat... alot more than the stock plastic one at least. THis is just trying 2 use the info i have picked up in Science Class the last few yearz.
