Here is one for you guys to help me out with, driving down the road today about 50mph and I hear a banging sound moving from the front to the back underneath the ex and a second later I see a few pieces (2 or 3) go flying out from the back of the ex. Not sure if I hit something small and just did'nt know it or if a part fell off my car. The car is not acting different or anything. The only thing is that my brakes have been squealing for a week now (prior) and I still have to wait for a more convienent time to get them looked at, could something have flown off of my brakes? Thanks

Why didn't you go look at what you ran over/came off?

Doubtful if your brajes fell off.

was merging onto highway during lunch hour, was'nt happening

When I had my Ranger it had a rubber boot connecting the tranny and the driveshaft. Well one day while cruising the 5 it disintegrated and make a horrible noise for 1 1/2 - 2 seconds. Anyway, do V6 Explorers have these? :D

would that prevent it from running?

could it have been a heat shield?

dust shield

check the dust shields.

i had the head of one of the bolts shear off, and it sounded like hitting a rock.

then the brakes were squealing because the shield was rubbing the inside of the rotor.

what sucks is having to use an extractor to get the rest of the bolt out in order to put a new one.
