I've done a search for this and found quite a few "almost" answers, but I'd like to get a little information if possible. I installed a remote starter this morning (it only works at the moment with the key in the ignition because I'm waiting for the bypass module to come in on backorder). I would like for the keyless entry to remain operational when the engine is running via remote starter. Here are my two ideas....

1. Because the only way that the keyless module knows the engine is running is through the accessory wire, I was thinking that I could just cut the accessory power wire from the remote starter and put a blade connector in it so that it can be disconnected and reconnected if I decide I don't like it. Only problem with that is that my air conditioner then will not run in the summer with the car running remotely.

2. The second idea is a little more complicated, but I was thinking of trying to wire a relay from the additional power wire from the remote unit to temporarily break the connection of the actual power wire to the keyless module when the remote starter is activated. It would basically trick the keyless into thinking that the engine is not running even when it is. This option seems preferable to me, but I'm not sure how easy it would be to pull this off. Does anyone have any experience trying this? At a bare minimum, I need to know the color of the appropriate wire and where to locate it (can I find it under the dash, or will I have to run additional wire all the way to the jack compartment where the keyless module is??). Any other instructions would be appreciated too.

Does anyone have any thoughts on either of these two ideas? The X is a 98 XLT. Thanks.
