I have a 2002 XLT with the following symptoms:
- When it has been sitting locked for a while, when I touch the first button of my unlock code, the alarm sounds. I continue to type in my code and the alarm stops.
- Once it is unlocked and I open the door, I try to unlock the rest of the doors using the lock on the door panel. It does not work. I do know that I could use the keypad, but let me continue.
- After driving and I turn the key to the off position, the lock on the door panel does not work. If the key is turned to the on position, it does work.
- If the key is in the ignition in the off or first turn postion, the door chime does not stop even though no doors are open. I am not able to listen to my radio anymore unless the truck is running.
- If I try to lock the truck using the keypad, it does not work. Using the switch in the rear hatch does work.
I took it to the dealer today and paid $100 for them to diagnose the problem. They determined that there is intermittent power to the ground side of the power door lock switch. They were will to chase down this gremlin for $100/hour with price cap. I wasn't willing to let them do this. I was hoping since it was a dealer, they might have seen this problem before. They haven't.
Any help would be appreciated.
