i just purchased two 12" Kicker L7's, and i'm planning on running them off of an Alpine HU to a JL Audio 500.1 amp. these subs have an RMS rating of 750 watts each, so i don't know if they will be underpowered and i was wondering if anyone had any experience with these. they will be wired to run at 2 ohms in a vented enclosure.

That amp puts out 500 watts at any load between 1 and 4 ohms so you are really underpowering the subs. JL does underrate their stuff so you might get 600 watts but you want at least 1200 watts to run those subs.

actually that jl amp is most efficient between 3 ohm and 1 ohm. so you want to make sure that your subs are dual 4ohm subs, so you can run your system at 1 ohm. that jl amp has what is called r.i.p.s. which is stands for regulated intelligent power supply. so it doesn't matter if your final impedance is 3 or 1 ohm that power supply puts out 500 watts no matter what. jl and lightning audio both have kick ass 1000 watt amps. you might want to consider either one of those amps for the best performance for those subs. anytime you use a subwoofer in a vented enclosure you want to increase the size of your amp. if you have any questions feel free to ask.

so what would you recommend in the mid 300$ range?

Well for that kinda money you have 2 choices.

1. You can down size your subs. Something that'll take 500 watts. or

2. You can sell your current JL amp and save for an amp you need.

These are just what I suggest if you want the best sound.
