While doing a search to see if anyone had done a C-6 swap I came across a post for a Klune-V underdrive unit. Having an AWD means not having the benefit of locking the transfer case in 4x4 high or low and from what I saw on the website I thought this might be a way to (sort of) get a 4x4 low put into an AWD without performing an actual swap. It may not be perfect, But it would be somewhat of a low-range. would this work?

Hello,

For many us, a Klune V would be the ULTIMATE - esp those of us with the stock 4-Lo option and those with Atlas IIs . Unfortunately, the Klune V is not compatible with the Explorer platform. It won't work / bolt-up to the transmission or the tcase. Screwed at both ends on that one. Looked into this myself, as have many others.

Use the search feature for "Klune" to get more details, and to research your alternative options.

The most economical and probably easiest route might be to swap in a stock tcase with 4-Lo from a 4.0 V6 SOHC.

Welcome to the site - good luck!

Different splines and bolt pattern between BW4405, and BW4403 or BW4404. Section's truck has an adapter to make the swap.

Well, it was a good idea anyway. thanks for the help. I'm sort of an off-road-poser anyway and don't really need low range. It'd just be nice to have it. I'll keep looking.
