Knocking on startup/97 V8???

Okay experts...please give me advice..

I recently moved to Alpine, TX from Southeast, GA and it is pretty cold up here in the mountains this time of year... I noticed this weekend, that my 97 EB 5.0 V8, knocks or pings for several moments when started cold...

I have always been very particular about how my vehicle's engine's sound, and pay close attention to any new sounds..

It has 75k on it, and I'm worried that this is a sign of bad things to come.....

What do you all think?

I was hoping this truck was going to last in good condition until after it is paid off..

What oil filter are you using?

I just bought a new NAPA one, at my last oil change 2500 miles ago.........

Particular model, I don't know......

Sounds like your lifters are just tapping a little but it's no problem. If you run too thick of oil they will even do that at startup but it doesn't hurt anything as long as they aren't doing it all the time.

Is 10W30 too thick though? That is what I am running..

No 10w30 is fine i run a little heavier with 10w40. I just thought maybe you was running damn 20w50 or something. Is it a tapping or hard thunk?
