My girlfriend just bought A 01 Ex limited from a friend of her dads. After getting it home we noticed the brake lights didn't work, the third eye worked fine.
After seaching around the forums and from personal experience it sounds alot like the lamp out module from the center console computer . I looked under the center console and didnt see it on the right side like it is on my 96.
Does the 01 Limited even have one or is it somwhere else or do I have A different problem???

The later Gen 2 Ex doesn't have a Lamp Out Warning Module for the Message Center. IIRC, 97 or 98 was the last year.

If it has the computer in the center console, that would be it. If it has no computer in the center console, it doesn't have a lamp out module.

Other possibilities are the brake on off switch... The high mount stop lamp is fed from one half of the switch, while the brake lights are fed from the other half.

The third common possibility is that the multifunction switch is bad... But I would only look at that if the stop and turn signals are the same bulb. If it has a separate amber turn signal, that's not the problem.

Earlier 2nd Gen Explorers that were equipped with the Message Center (trip computer) also had a Lamp Out Warning Module in the center console. The LOWM was not present in any 1999~2001 2nd Gens.
