Late 80s B2000 Advice

Pull the oil pan and remove the rod caps. You could use a floor jack and pop each one free individually. Also would give you a chance to see the true health of the engine.

Guess that's an option too, was trying to avoid that, but I guess, yeah...I'll let it sit a few more days like it is, that way I got time to empty my other storage unit into this one so that I'm not paying for two, and if it's still giving me nothing, then I'll go for that I guess. Appreciate the advice, definitely a fair point

Another idea would be to make something you could bolt to the block with head bolts then use a pair of 2 jaw pullers on 2 of the cylinders. Put something on top of the piston to distribute the force. With that and a breaker bar, if it doesn't come free, it won't.

Now that may end up being partially overkill, though it's not unlikely I'll need it at rate, rather not but I guess now we'll see

Thinking about a 90s 350 lt1, or a 4.3l tbi for the mazda? The 4.3l is really close by and free, the 350 is two actually, including transmissions, for cheap(er), least according to the listing. I'm guessing this is a no brainer question but figured I'd throw the vote out lol

both are reliable engines, the 4.3 is the baby 5.7 haha. we have a 4.3 carbed marine... solid engine!! both are good, but you cant beat. a350... but if its free, the 4.3 maybe? they share lots of parts so you could always drop a 5.7 in later i think???

The motor mounts and interior parts are about the same, yeah. BUT...that's no ordinary 350, that's the LT1, which did have upgraded internals and such, while mine puts out like 210hp and 310ftlbs of torque (that is bone stock, doubtful but mine could put out a smidge better with it being rebuilt and having upgrades from me and the last owner), vs the LT1 version having like 370hp and 380ftlbs of torque...so, compared to that 4.3l having 180-190hp and 245-250ftlbs of torque...I don't know..lol
Could always drop one in later, yeah, but then I gotta do it all over again, which would be kinda annoying lol

Hard pass on the 4.3! 350 is the way to go, are they 4 bolt main blocks?

Not sure, they're either lt1s from the 70s or the 90s, my guess is the legacy in the 90s based on the look, but not real sure, still waiting on some info.

350 with some boost and a 6 speed manual.

Oooo, a 6 speed manual could be fun..
Plenty of used T56 units out there that can be had cheap. The GM ones seem to be easier to find cheap than the ford. Anyone of them will work if you know how to change the input and output shafts to your application.

Well, I can figure that out, I'm sure I could find a gm one no problem, I can find something either way, these gm trucks are a dime a dozen out here

If it was mine, I'd get the wide ratio transmission. 2.97 1st and .5 6th. Put an Explorer rear axle in with 4.10 gears. You might get traction in 4th gear

The explorer axle is a good idea, but what I was thinking is I'm taking a 14 bolt to throw in the rado, so I'll have a perfectly good 4.10 gm 10 bolt to spare after I do, so, gm engine and tranny, paired to that 10 bolt...the 10 bolt would be a smidge weaker, but I'm sure it would up, least for a bit! Though the explorer one would be thinner and fit better, though the gm one would provide a wider rear end almost like a drag look lol

Alright, progress! 3/4 drained through! The fourth is still lower than I left it last. Tried getting it loose, pretty sure I'm starting to strip the crank bolt, which REALLY ain't good...so I'm done today, letting itbsit again, and hopefully it soaks through better this time and I can get it...hopefully..but either way, good progress on the other 3, they pretty much drained through fully!

that reminds me of my saga with an old yamaha xj550 that was a fun bike but had a similar starting point haha

So I'll just say it now, pretty sure that's a problem...
