Ford Motor Co., meanwhile, managed to push its market share in May within two points of General Motors by posting a 1.4-percent increase in light vehicle sales. Ford's market share in May stood at 25.6 percent while GM's slipped to 27.9 percent. Sales of the Ford Taurus increased three percent in May, indicating Ford was making good use of incentives and fleet discounts, but sales of its Lincoln, Volvo and Jaguar luxury brands also climbed in May.

The title of this post was "Explorer production #s by year", but these
are sales #s.
Here is an update on the Jan./00 - May/00 sales #s from:
http://www.prnewswire.com

Jan. - 30,058
Feb. - 38,289
Mar. - 46,684
Apr. - 36,164
May - 44,202
_____________
Total = 195,397
Average = 39,079
This includes Sport & Sport Trac models, but excludes Mountaineers.
(The Mountaineer seems to sell at roughly 10% the rate of the
Explorer). If Ford can continue at this rate for the next 7 months it
will be a record year for Explorer sales.
195,397 x 2.4 = 468,953
