I happen to have a leak coming from between the engine and transmission, the problem is that I have to sometimes add motor oil and other times transmission fluid to my 1996 xlt explorer, at times while driving she skips and won't move but only for a couple of seconds and it hasn't happened in quite a while. I change transmission filter once a year. At times is like she is forcing to move other times no problem and sometimes she jerks forward with a load bang again hasn;t happened in quite awhile but what do I have to change to stop these leaks? Once I change the filter the van runs perfect for awhile.

my thoughts

it sounds like maybe your trans problems are linked to the leak it self as in all auto trans will act as if they are slipping when they run low on fluid and this happening to often can cause major issue to internals of the trans like the clutchs prematurely being wore out your leak is most likely coming from your front pump seal judge by where your saying its leaking and as far as the jerking that really could be multiple things but id start with fixing the leak and seeing how things go from there and your oil leak could be either your valve covers or your rear main seal which i have had to replace both on mine when the valve covers leak in the back side they make it appear that your rear main is bad to the untrained eye so be prepared to get underneath and get dirty other wise you may do alot of unnecessary work in my honest opinion i only believe in replacing wore out gaskets stop leak does nothing but destroy anything i have ever seen it used on but it is your choice

You should service the transfer case (if applicable) also.
