I purchased a 2002 ford explorer about 3 weeks ago and didn't realize a slow leak on the drivers side. I got into the car a few days after purchase and noticed wet drops on the floor matt. Keeping in mind that this is a manual transmission, what could it be? I also noticed that the clutch peddle is wet and has previous drippings on it. I looked under and everything else looked dry. If anyone can help it would be appreciated greatly. I'm not a mechanic, and could use the help. Thanks again:yelexp:

Welcome to the forum!

Check where the brake and clutch pedal comes thru the floor board. May be a leak in your master cylinder for both the brake and clutch master cylinder and fluid is seeping thru and into passenger compartment. Look at both master cylinder to see which is low on fluid and it may give you a clue.

I've only heard about manual transmission 3rd Gen Explorers and never seen one.

Post back with your fix.

First off, thank you for the reply. I looked and sure enough it's where the clutch peddle goes through the floor board. It's seeping through what I think is the clutch master cylinder. I looked for the reservoirs and only found 1. Is it a reservoir for both brake and clutch, or do I have to dig deeper? Also does this repair include dropping anything out? Like the tranny. Thanks again, and please write back,

Master cylinders are relatively easy to replace but you do have to bleed them. As to how many I so not know as I have never seen a manual transmission. Maybe some of the other folks here may have some comments on this. I have seen in the Haynes manual that mentioned and had pictures of the clutch so I would think it should mention the master cylinder(s). I suggest you get a copy from AutoZone as the manual should be part of your tool kit. Check under the hood in the area where the clutch pedal goes thru floor board and look to telltale signs of seepage.
