leaking HG how do i tell what bank?

98 explorer 4.0 SOHC v6
my beast is gradually losing water in a week so needs a refill everytime, i can smell exhuast fumes in the radiator and bottle, my oil cap is showing signs of the yoak color, the exhaust doesnt show that much water or none at all passing out, how can i tell what bank is the fualty HG?

I'd say pulling the plugs would be the first step, and if you have a compression tester, that would help too.

Shouldn't matter, should it? You are going to pull both heads anyway aren't you? They should both be serviced at this point in their lives anyway.
 






in 2001 at 044966 miles it was stripped down for new HG/EG/chains and guides 00mm12kit etc, this was possibly 3 owners ago before it got to me, its now at 121200 with HG failing. i wanted to do the one bank as it should be ok on the other one?

i was looking for that last sunday as i changed my spark plugs over (about 2 years old) to a new set of NGK platinum and did not find any like that.
