one of my bulbs is out and i was wondering instead if it's legal to replace the both bulbs with another color like red or something. is that legal or does it have to be white/clear bulbs? thanks

I wouldn't want to find out the hard way that it is illegal, so I personally would just stick with the white.

yes, the rear license plate. we don't have to have front plates in PA, woohoo! i wouldn't think that it would be a problem with a different color. thanks BM.

the reason i was asking in the forst place was because i heard it was illegal now to have those neon tubes around the license plate. all the ricers had them, now i don't see them at all. i was thinking maybe the bulbs would be included.

You could search Findlaw.com, or maybe even contact your local PD, and see what you find out from either of those. I've heard of the neons being illegal, but as far as just the bulbs being illegal, I'd think they are going to almost be in the same category and would most likely be illegal rather than legal. You never know what you're going to get pulled over for next and that could definately be an excuse to try and catch you on something else.

I'm willing to bet that you can put anything other than blue and red. But double check with authorities before you do anything because you don't want to get a ticket for something this minute. :)

i would just be nervous that i would get pulled over for the bulbs, and then get nailed for tinted windows too, or something like that. i'll have to check. i really would only want red or blue, so i'll ask the local PD.

here in wi you can only use white bulbs on the licence plate. and there has to be 2 of them!
check your state department of transportation web site. they will have the laws or contact #s.
