Whats the # for the lights that shine onto the license plate. Do they make them in blue and will you be able to notice that they are blue? And is is legal to do this?

They're #168. They come in clear, amber, blue and red (at least I've seen all those). I believe those are all legal since it's just lighting your license plate.

Will 194 fit? On this ebay auction I found its for 194 but says cross reference and has some other numbers and 168 is one of them

I guess so.. If it's a wedgebulb it'll fit, but I've heard using the wrong # can result in a fire.

Are you serious? The auction says it will fit all 3 letter bulbs... And almost all of the auctoins are 194

I'm sure it's just some bulbs, like higher wattage. You should be fine if it cross-references in the auction.

ok thanks, I'm going to order some.

I have them in blue and yeah they are illegal, but only if you get caught. :)
168, 194, I think they all fit the same. Its the same bulb that goes in the front corners if I ain't mistaken. I got a free set when I bought blue reverse lights on ebay. Yeah those are illegal too, but they look damn good. :)

i was gonna get colored ones until i heard that they were illegal. i also thought that it's just the license plate, but they are illegal. i don't need to give a cop any reason to pull me over b/c then they are libel to hit me up for tint and all that good stuff all b/c of little colored bulbs ;)

A long time ago I had red lights. Those illegal also? I see people with blue driving around all the time.

Any light shining on your liscence plate other than white is illegal. Red would be erring on the more acceptable side (still illegal), just because it is legal to have red lights on the back of your vehicle, but blue would be an easy one to pick out by the cops, the type of easy add on fine when getting pulled over for speeding or the like.

Can you leave the cap off so that it's brighter or would that be a bad thing to do?

Cap? The lense? The lense protects the bulb and wiring so don't do that.

you can maybe find a super white bulb to replace the stock one. that sounds like a good idea to me, i might look for one now actually.

The only superwhites I found were too expensive (IMO) or those blue ones filled with "xenon."

I already got some blue ones.
