03 sport trac xlt 4x4
I have a 03 ST 4x4 xlt in stock trim. I want to get a larger wheel and tire under it. My plan is to use a 17x8/8.5 wheel and and 32'' to 33'' inch tire. A few questions :
1- with a TT or torsion keys front and shackle rear how large of a tire can I fit ?
2- are torsion keys helpful at all or is turning the bars just as good ?
3- Would I need a longer than stock length shock ? ( i plan on buy new shocks either way )
4- At what height tire will I run into computer problems ? ( abs , trans shifting ect )
5- Best way to deal with said computer issues ?
I know this is a lot but any info or advice is greatly appreciated. I like to have my duck in a row before I start buying parts and turning bolts. Also anyone that has a similar set up I would love to see some photos !
Thanks in advance ! Bart

OK, I'm running a set of AGGRESSIVE 265/70R17's with JUST a torsion adjustment on the drivers side to level.
There is rubbing at extreme ends of the turn radius. This is with stock length shocks and NO other mods.

You WILL run in to PCM issues with ANY tire change from the factory Revs per Mile size. ANY.
They obviously get worse the further you get from the factory Revs per Mile (3% error being the industry accepted limit).
The PCM flash can be changed to account for shifts with a flash tuner (I use SCT), or a gearing change - but it is best to do BOTH (not mandatory). This corrects the relative gear ratio issue and helps the PCM make better shifting decisions.

1: 32-33" depending on wheel offset and trimming. Yu can trim a lot on the inner fender that won't even be noticeable.

2: Torsion keys are a waste of money

3: Stock length shocks will still work even with a 2" TT

4: The further away from stock size, the worse it gets. I ran 35s with stock 4.10 gears. Speedo was off by a good bit, but honestly it wasn't bad to drive. It wasn't fast by any means but I didn't mind it.

5: Best way is to reggae your axles. I regard from 4.10s to 4.88s and it made a world of difference and effectively brought it back to a stock ratio with the 35s. Other way is through a tuner that overwrites the computer.
