Lift gate electrical disconnect?

I need to remove the lift gate on my 1999 Sport to repair fatique cracking. Haynes says to remove electrical connection at the top of the lift gate. I've pealed back both the rubber covers at the lift gate and at the body...NO CONNECTOR, just pull thru wiring. WHAT AM I MISSING???

What, no one out there who have removed the lift gate? 1999 Sport...I can't figure out how to disconnect the wiring. May just have to cut the wiring then splice it back together....just was hoping I was missing a connector somewhere.

Its in the truck, you gotta drop the headliner a few inches
