I am thinking about ordering the 4" suspension lift from suspensionconnection.com for my 91 Explorer, but I want to know if I need to buy the shocks and pitman arm with it, because they will really drive up the price. The pitman arm is recomended, but I just dont know about the shocks.

You should really get the dropped pitman arm as it :
  • Will correctly orient the steering components in the correct angles; there will be less wear and tear on the draglink and tie rods
  • Bump steer.. without a dropped pitman arm the truck will be harder to control as any bump will tend to steer the truck

You don't have to buy the shocks that come with the kit, but you will need new shocks as the old ones will be too short and won't reach anymore. The Skyjacker shocks that were optional with my 4" kit were not the greatest so I measured my shock mounts for extended, compressed and ride height lengths and found matching Rancho shocks.
