I'm a new owner of my first 4 x 4 (a 99 explorer xlt) Although I have not yet experienced true 4 wheelin' I definately will. I would like to have some more clearance, so is there a lift kit available for this truck? Also what is the difference (technically and appearance) between a suspension lift and a body lift? Any replies would be appreciated.

Chris,
To my knowledge, there are no afermarket lift kits for the newer Explorers. A body lift kit for older Explorer can be modified to fit (see suspension and lift section). As for the body and suspension lift differences...
A body lift simply increased the distance between the body and frame, but does nothing to the suspension. Cosmetically, it may leave an unsightly gap between the body and frame, also in the fender wells.
For suspension lifts, they work by increasing travel in the suspension. Suspension lifts are accomplished with lift blocks, longer coil springs, off-set spindles, and by various other means. Appearance wise, you really have to see another Explorer lifted, but again, no kit is available for the newer Explorers.

Trail Master makes a lift for 98+ and superlift is working on one for 95-97. Do a search, this topic is talked about a lot.

yup

Here's a link to fourwheelwholesalers website, where you can order lifts, lights, etc, etc:

4 inch trailmaster lift for explorer (98-2000, despite what the site says)

There are lots of other options, too. Not so many as the 90-94 models, but some, nontheless. For example, warrior shackles, add-a-leafs, body lift (I haven't found one for the 95+ explorers, so I'm not sure about that). I haven't had any experience with those types of lifts, but I'm sure someone can tell you more about them.
