HEY PEOPLE!

I AM NEW TO THE MESSAGE BOARD AND I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE OUT THERE CAN HELP ME WITH UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENCE BTWN A SUSPENSION LIFT AND A BODY LIFT. I DON' T DO ANY OF THE REAL WHEELING BUT I DO GO TO THE SAND DOOMES BUT I AM RESTRICTED BY THE CLEARANCE ON MY 92 XLT. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. I ALSO WANT TO KNOW WHAT I AM LOOKING AT IN TERMS OF ECONOMY.

Hey there Ron welcome to the best little explorer site around!

The difference is when you do a 2 or 3 inch body lift your actually removing the body from the frame and placing a 2 or 3 inch block in there. Only do this if you plan on running bigger tires. No ground clearence is gained by a body lift alone.

A susp. lift is exactly what it says it lifts the susp. Normally you buy a 4" kit you, lift the suspension 4". Not always though. I bought a 5.5" lift and when I put it on I gain a little over 7" in the front and just a hair over 6" in the back. Very wierd!

Hopes this helps!

Actually you do gain ground clearance by installing a body lift. Your approach and departure angles will improve, assuming you lift the bumpers with the body. If you are dragging your bumpers in the sand dunes, a body lift would improve that. My bumpers are 3" higher than stock which now allows me to get my tires to the object when before my front bumper would stop me. With my hitch in the rear though, my departure angle hasn't improved.

Opps I forgot about gaining approach angles. Sorry about that. What do you mean by "terms of economy?"

Which is cheaper? im guessing suspension

most of the time body lifts are considerably cheaper than suspension lifts.

Wow really, about hwo much are we talking about here?

Body lifts could be around $100 if you install it yourself and a suspension lift could probably be found for as little as $250 w/o labor all the way up to thosands of dollars depending on how extreme you want to go!!

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO TOOK THE TIME TO REPLY AND ANSWERE MY QUESTION. I JUST HAVE ANOTHER ONE. WHERE CAN I GO, HERE IN L. A ., I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING BUT ALL I GET AS FEEDBACK ARE A BUNCH OF SUSPENSION SHOPS WHICH DO NOT SELL NOR INSTALL THE LIFTS THEMSELVES. IF YOU HAVE A BY SUGESTIONS DROP ME A LINE.
