liftgate interior handle replace

The interior liftgate handle on my 2016 Explorer broke. I have a replacement but I don't know if I have to take the liftgate panel off or can I just remove the 2 screws? I'm concerned that those screws may attach to something inside the liftgate. If so, I don't know how to get into the liftgate, and I don't want to make the problem worse. Thanks ...george

It looks a tad different from my vehicle but I think those screws attach to the metal of the liftgate. I'll give it a try tomorrow. Thanks for the help. ...george

The screws for the liftgate came out and went back in just fine without having to remove the interior panel. Thanks again for your help. ...george

Thanks for reporting back George. Good to know. You'd be surprised how many don't bother to do that and it leaves the issue unresolved.
