i have a problem with the aux lights on my toyota... let me explain: i wired them up with a relay and all that..... (the attached pic on the bottom) they lights worked great....

i then wanted them to also be switched to automatically come on with my highbeams.. ok did that... they worked.....

however, i have found that if i switch the in cab switch on, @ anytime, the fuse blows regardless of if the highbeams are on.... toyota uses a positive ground system.. did i tap into the wrong wire or what? i tapped into the red/green wire... or did i just connect the tap into the wire going to the relay wrong? the top picture shows where i made the attachment of the piggybacked circuit.....

I have no clue about your wiring.........but I love your signature!

Even though that wiring is super confusing, the problem I see is the wire runbning from the headlight feed to the switch. When you throw the switch, you are sending power INTO the headlight feed....

Here is how I would do it on a regular neg ground car:

You use a two way switch, and when you throw the switch in the left postion, it will let the highbeam circuit operate the relay, in the middle both will be off, and clicking it to the right will turn on the lights.

I don't think this is correct. Does the cable on the + side of the battery go to the frame? If it goes to the starter, then you have - ground.

What Toyota does do is they switch the ground side of the headlamp circuit.

Go to this page:

http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/relays/relays.html

and scroll down to the part on SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR GROUND-SWITCHED SYSTEMS.

I used to drive a no-fooling + ground car, a 1960 Morris Minor 1000. You know the type: pre say 1964 British car with Lucas electrics. Or, as we used to say, "Lucas, Prince of Darkness."

yeah its the ground headlight circuit thing then... i know about the daniel stern lighting... the yota guys always buy his updated housing as they are dot legal..... i dont have a 3 way switch, jsut a regular on off switch... since i kep blowing fuses, i put in a 30 amp circuit breaker i stole from my explorer... and it works fine now.... i odnt get it :)

you might not blow a fuse but you just might burn your Yota...
;)
