I rented a car dolley to haul a 93 nissan 240sx home, so we can start on the RB25DET install, and 1/2 way home, my interior lights went out, and all my rear lights went out, and all my fuses under my dash look good, but i havent checked the big grey one's, yet

List of lights that work:

Headlights
Brights
Blinker's
and backup lights
dome light when turned on

List of lights that dont work...???

All interior lights,gauge cluster..etc
rear lights (red)
front amber's

More less, when you pull on the switch and that tunes on your interior lights, and your front ambers, and rear (reds), NOTHING turns on, but when u pull it back to the next setting the headlight's come on, and thats it,

cd player works fine, fog lights work fine, alarm works fine,

I dont understand what it can be, if anyone that will take the time to read this, please help me out,

Thanks JASON

Come on, like to fix by this evaning

i had a 93 mercury grand marquis at my shop the other day with the same problem it was the headlight switch. the thing you pull on to turn on your lights. you have to either just try that part and hope it fixes it or find some wiring diagrams and use a multimeter to see if you are getting power out to your tails and dash lights from that switch

sounds confusing

I don't know.... sounds perfectly fine advice to me. He is saying your light switch is potentially a problem on the one position and to check it.

when you pull the switch out you will see several wires connected to it. you need a wire diagram to know which is the dash lights and what is the tail lights and I am guessing its going to read 0v.

electrical diagnosis isn't easy on a computer, have you started taking things apart or looking for wire diagrams

guess about the cheapest way would be to go to a junkyard and get a switch and try it as long as it doesn't have the same problem (if you are looking for some magical easy answer)

ok, i guess ill go buy a manual

Can be lightswitch, did you already check the trailer socket (*)? Some electrical probs are caused by humidity or damages cables there.
( * only if you have one on your XLT )

i actually jusdt bought one, gonna see if thats it today

Kinda sounds like a short in a way but if the fuses are ok then it probably is not. Do you have a multi meter? This would be the best way to test for voltage and continuity. If you do not then get creative, if you have a 12v light bulb and some wire you can test for voltage that way too.

all the fuses are good, its Not the head light switch, and after i installed it, and nothing still i was pissed,

all the volts are good

WTF ?

does highbeam work ? If yes, check the multifunction-switch ( contact probs at the highbeam-switch / slidecontacts ). If no, check the gnd-wires at the sockets.

yes the high beams work, and when i set my alarm, the from ambers and rear tails light up, but wont turn on from the inside of the car

guess it´s that multifunction switch. See if you can disassemble it and if the sliders are okay, they are a weak point. Most times they switch the highbeams but not back to driving light. Guess that´s what´s up with yours.

and were is this switch located? a pic maybe. taken to dash off was a ***** with out cracking it

the mutli-function switch is the switch for your blinkers and high-beams

The trailer harness is a problem source if not properly maintained. How long have you had the harness, when was it last used, and is is permanently routed through the driver's side light or temporally lying on the rear hatch seal? If laying on the hatch seal it can get pinched when the hatch is causing a short. I would unplug the harness completely (to eliminate it as a problem source). My harness is permanently installed, but I must clean the trailer plug every 4-6 months do to corrosion build up on the metal connectors.

well this all started when i was towing a car with my explorer, ill look at the harness today, but if i take the harness out, would that slove the problom? and the lights would work with out a prob? hopefully i didnt burn some bulb's

thansk though

I can't say if unhooking the tow wire will solve your problem. But If your problem started when you towed with your X, you need to look at what changed. I am assuming the only thing that changed was that you hooked up the tow harness. Maybe a wire is pinched and that a bump in the road eventually caused a short...
