The bulbs can be replaced. They have what looks like a small standard screw driver slot. Simply turn and pull them out. I have some small 12v bulbs I replaced mine with. I just took the colored sleeve off and placed them on the bulbs I put in. The thing I hate about replacing burnt out lights is all the crap you have to take a part just to get to the damn things.

Is it easy to remove the radio cover to then remove these lights...any clips or anything to remove ?

thanks

Access to most of the dash/console lights requires pulling the radio, for which you need to purchase a radio removal tool for releasing the recessed holding clips. Some folks fabricate the tool using wire clothes hangers, but the tool at Walmart only costs about USD $4.00...does the job nicely.

That is not the only way to get the radio out. As Dreamr stated take the bolts out just above the heater controls. Pull the whole bezzle out then detach the wiring from the switches/ 12v socket. Then if you really need to remove the radio just press in the holding tabs on both sides of the radio and pull it out.

thanks alot 1996LIMITED. are thse available only at Ford ?

I would think so. I have heard the blue colored bulbs that are in our explorers are expensive or discontinued. So you might have to get the green. To make it blue just cut off the blue rubber cover on the burnt out light with a razor blade, same for the green then swap it.
