What makes the same sound as a broken/bend connecting rod? My motor all of a sudden started knocking really loudly. I pulled the engine, dropped pan and yet everything looks fine.

Thanks

Additional question.

Is it bad to manually keep turning the crankcraft after the oil has been drained and pan has been removed?

Turning it by hand is okay. There is still oil in the bearings. Running an engine with no oil is VERY bad though...

When I turn the crankshaft, it feels like it becomes loose as a certain point, but after that it's fine. What could that be?

A couple of rods have a *tiny* bit of play in them, but I don't see how that would have caused all the racket I was hearing when whatever it was went, went.

Plus it was sudden, like something just broke.... I would have thought if a bearing had worn down I would have had a knocking that would have gotten louder and louder, but before whatever it was went... everything was fine. Is that correct assessment? Or would a bad bearing be a sudden thing?

Nah, that's this weekends job.

Well, if a push rod was to jump out of the rocker socket, it would be sudden, and, make a heck of a racket. The sound would emanate from the center of the block due to the lifter flinging around in there-

The " tiny play" in the rod bearings has me a bit concerned---

just a thought.

I have a funny story about a backfire and pushrod coming off if you'd care to hear it-

Well I found the culprit, nice crack in my crankshaft.
