Going to check this baby out today http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/cto/3408207816.html.

Owner said tons of calls, but i have first claim. Its right up the road and she said 600 bucks, inspected, rebuilt trans but runs rough.

Said body isn't to bad, just a bit of rust inside the hatch (which it seems most hatched vehicles get) and some on the hood. As long as the rockers are clean, which they look good in the pics.

Its an XLS so I think it may be the OHV, but it could be the SOHC. If its the OHV anything to look for on the test run that could point to the running issue? It does run and drive as I parked next to it at work the other day.

My thoughts are buy for 600, put a few into it and flip it back around for 2500 all day long. But if its clean and has a recent tranny rebuild I could keep it....

Thoughts?

123k on the rebuilt tranny? How many on the engine/vehicle? 250k? Chances are it needs complete suspension work. Running rough might be because the engine is completely worn out.

No 123k on the engine/body and it had a rebuilt tranny...

Went and looked... took a pass.

Suspension looked solid, besides needing shackles and original shocks.
Had a check engine light, high idle (1000-1200ish), and the oil pressure read zero when it wasn't bouncing around. It started right up and sounded strong. My guess was an intake or vac leak. It was an OHV.

Had literally no bottom on the inside of the hatch, i've never seem that before. Didn't have the shocks to hold the trunk open either.

Rust was mainly on the doors, the rockers were average for a 2000. Small spot near the gas tank. Interior was clean just missing the floor mats.

Also had 3 different tires.

Overall I decided to pass, didn't see enough to flip for a profit. For 600 someone could throw a few hundred at it for a winter beater though.

I don't think they still had the OHV in 2000, so it's probably the SOHC. If so, the rough running may be timing chain/guides related. That can be an expensive repair.

It was the last year in the explorer I think... it was indeed a OHV regardless, I saw with my own eyes.
