Can anyone direct me to a good site to order a kit for pushrod/rocker replacements? Something a little better than stock, nothing too serious. I have a serious "tick" going on in my '95 4.0 ohv. It has over 150 k on it.

Thanks!!

i belive delta camshaft in tacoma has the hardened push rods/rockers

Lifters also? Don't forget them in the equation.

I dont have the knowledge or the proper tools to replace the lifters. The heads have to come off for the lifters, right? Then a new cam would go in as well. I have to get by with what I can do for myself.

No,
You remove the intake Manifold to get to the lifters. Heads stay in place.

Heads can even stay in for a cam swap.

Man, I really don't know much about ford 4.0 v-6! Grew up on sm block v-8's.
I really need to study this engine, hard!

The heads DO NEED to come off.. they overlap the lifters enough to require them to come out.. :)

As to new rockers/pushrods, Delta Cam has a kits for < $200 that comes with hardened pushrods and new rockers assemblies (you need to send your old ones back).

Thank you Mr. Maniak Sir! I thought I read somewhere that there is a lip that prevents the lifters from coming out. I had searched for a manufacturer of push rods and rockers, but did not know which ones are good vs. bad. I will check out the Delta site on your recommendation.

You do realize that if you do all this work and expense, there is a very good chance you will still have the problem if you don't replace the lifters. You MAY fix it without lifters...and you may NOT too...

That is a posibilty, but IMHO its worth the work.

The push rods and rocker arm assemblies wearing down is very common on the 4.0 motor. More so than the lifters.. When we tore down our motor at 355k miles more than 1/2 of the cups in the rocker arms were worn way down and more than 6 of the push rods had the tips worn down.
We reused 10 of the lifters from our motor and took 2 from my parts motor to replace the two that had the plastic guides on the top of the lifter broken.

Soo, in short, I used all used (I soaked them in atf for a day or so while working on the motor) lifters and new rocker arm and pushrods and have 0 tap now.

Also, changing the rockers and push rods is very little work.. Pull the valve covers, pull 3 bolts per rock arm assembly, pull off rocker arm assembly and push rods... Install new stuff and call it a day..

I can have them done in 2 about hours.

For the $ and time, if it works, it will be worth it. If it does not fix the problem, and I need lifters, at least the new rockers and pushrods will be in place. I am trying to salvage this motor instead of swapping it out. I figure a little $ spent is better than just throwing it out without even trying.

Thank you for the input gentlemen, I honestly need all the advice I can get!
