1999 Explorer Sport 4WD
Forgive me if this info is posted somewhere, but I really did search around and made an effort.

I was wondering about some of the details concerning the 1999 Explorer Sport I bought this week. I know I have the SOHC 4.0L, but I was wondering about a few other things:

1. Which tranny do I have?

2. What kind of rear axle is back there?

3. Can I find out if there's an LSD in the back before I go and open up the pumpkin?

4. I have keyless entry, but no code. The dealer told me it's printed on some component in the car (computer or module?), but he wasn't sure where. Would anyone clue me in?

Pictures to help in answers are always appreciated.

Does anyone also know how I may be able to check how my stocker was originally equipped? I don't think it's been modded, but I'd like to get to know the details as much as possible.

Thanks to all!

Well is it a 5 speed or a auto?

Your rear axle is a Ford 8.8 with 31 spline axleshafts. Disc brakes.
The gear ratio and whether or not it has the factory limited slip you can decipher from the door sicker or by crawling under it and reading the #'s on the axle tag
An example would be 3L73 = 3.73 ratio, L = limited slip.

the keyless entry code should be on a sticker in the cargo area, behind the access cover for your jack, its kinda tricky to find, but a search on this site will point you to it.

A search on this forum will answer every question you have, except for how to tell if your truck is modified. Modified how? suspension? engine, exhaust?

Look on the drivers door for the code. The codes are explained here http://www.explorerforum.com/ntrprize/

Its part of the code.

The factory code is on module in the driver;s side rear compartment. This thread should help you http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46129&page=2&pp=20&highlight=program+remotes

Good luck .........

Hey, thanks for the info, guys.

The truck is an automatic. I didn't realize it came in manual as well. Anyway, I didn't know if I had the 4-speed or the 5-speed, but thanks to one of aldive's links, I see that the SOHC engine was mated with the 5-speed.

As far as I know, it hasn't been modded at all, so that should be easier to help me find out what's in there.

I'll have a look for those codes and other stuff over the weekend.

Thanks again.

You can get a shop manual on CD by searching e-bay for "shop manual" in the auto section. Mine cost less than $12.00 including shipping and you will have a source for all your questions.
