On my (new to me) 2010 Explorer I noticed the driver’s side wiper not cleaning up the windshield as it should. Was odd in that that it would sometimes leave an arch of an un-cleaned area right in my view > this during a snow storm that was coming down pretty hard. So new wipers are going on and lo and behold, the wiper arm seemed rather loose to me. I never noticed this on my previous ‘06 Explorer. Hmmmm. Figured out these arms are not the tapered spline type but rather a ‘straight’ splined sleeve held on by a clip. No way to tighten up. Close inspection of both the male and female splines did not yield metal debris but also did not look so “spliny” if you will allow me that word. I.e. the splines seemed rather fine vs. meaty. A check of the passenger side was similar.
So I am thinking need new Wiper Arms and potentially the Wiper Transmission they mount to.
Anyone else experienced this looseness of the arms? And what was your fix?
Or perhaps this is normal
although I would fire the engineer who designed it that way, but crazier things have happened: ever had to get a special tool to pull spark plug remnants out of the hole because engineer thought a good idea to have a non-threaded extension of the plug reach thru the cylinder head
Thank goodness they rethought that for the 09s and 10s.
