I just got this 94 XLT, it seems like it does not have all the HP it should have. it is the 4.0L. Maybe I am wrong because I have never driven one before but my truck will not do a burnout... Only when wet. Is that strange or should I be putting new plugs and wires and filters and whatnot.

Its a Explorer, not a hotrod. They were not meant to burnout, that will tear the auto to peices, and wear everything out. If you want that kind of power, you will have to upgrade beyond factory, but it will still screw things up. Dry burnout are killer, but you should look into someother car if thats what you wanna do.

HAHAHAHAH wow okay, well sorry bout that but no car. I guess people are kind of dicks on this site. Thats not what I want to do with this truck, just thought that it should, and this maybe a sign to change somthing. Thanks for the info guy

i always wondered that too, but yea, they're pretty slow, i cant break the tires on the dry.

Lol, you misunderstand, I am not being a dick, you are asking a sensitive question, which you will get many answers I'm sure. What I said is the truth, it wont peel out, without mods done first, but the truck overall is not made for that kind of abuse. I used to try the same things with my first X back in high school, all I did was tear up tires and destroy the trans.

okay thanx for the info! I just thought that maybe it should be able to, cause my buddie parked beside me with his ford arostar van like a low 90's and that thing did a burn out very easy. But good to know. I only tried once and did nothing. So what I am going to do is replace plugs, wires and filters and change all the fluids.
Sorry for sayin you were bein a dick but I thought you were tryin.

When I first got my 2nd 93, a couple of years ago with just 56k on the clock...she would chirp the tires on dry pavement if you floored it. Haven't tried that in a while..plus the insane elevation I'm now at where I live, probably sucked some power from it

at ~180k i cant chirp the tires at the beach. All stock.

ive only been driving it for the last 10k miles, so its always been this slow.

Ahhh IC you are from AB, I am in BC! Know what you are saying about insane elevation. well I am in Burnaby now but go in the mountians :can: :can: :can: :can: :can: :can:

ha get manual hubs and put it in 2 low warniing though its hell on parts and bad on the truck but you can spin the tires like a mustang hell even better with 4.10 gears

A 1st gen X is not a fast SUV. It's not built for speed. I can't "peel out" or do "burnouts" at all on 2 different 94's I've owned. Even if you mod the X it still isn't going to be fast at all. It weighs over 4000LBS & is a 4X4 also.
Just cause it doesn't seem fast doesn't mean anything is wrong. It's just not that kind of car.
How's it drive otherwise? No sense in spending $$ on plugs/wires etc if there's nothing wrong with it. Doing that stuff will inprove drivablty, & gas milage but not power.

The WEAKEST link on your X is the tranny. 1991-1994 have VERY WEAK trannys. A few burnouts may cost you $1500.00-$2000.00 for a rebuilt tranny and the rebuilt will be the same way too.
I don't think you will be able to do burnouts anyway and with burnouts you most likely WILL burn out your tranny. Sorry but 1St gen X's are noted for BAD trannys.
My advice, your tranny, your call.

hahaha yeah good info... The tranny was just replaced last year on this.
Im not going to do any burn outs at all. It seems to drive just fine. I am just used to a 1969 C20 Chevy 2x4 with a 350. This is actually the first SUV I have ever drove. SO good to know. I havent got it on the HWY but I will tomorrow.

You can make it quicker with some bolt on's, but again you only improve the drivabilty & gain a little power, but still not enough to get the X moving fast.
However the 4.0L V6 is a great engine & it does like to be modded. If you spend some $$ you can get it to make over 200HP at the wheels with serious engine, head work, & cams. Unfortantly for what that costs you could swap in a 5.0 V8.
Search on this board. There's a ton of info on go fast stuff.

okay thanx on that info. I really dont need this thing to go fast. Just needs to get me to work and back camping and fishing! :exp:

Thats just what it is made to do, it just takes a bit longer.

best bet dont spin the tires on pavment, save the money you will save for a lift or power mods, if you want to burnout though you could get a mustang, but i think you will like the advantages of the explorer like being able to get through more then 2 inches of snow without getting stuck.

ANd scrap the 2 low idea i got it from someone on this forum its a bad idea hell on the rear end

hahaha yeah the 2low sounds fun but not for the truck.
I took it in yesterday and they are telling me everything is good on the truck except the bushings on the radius arms. They havent been changed before so I am not sure if I should just give my self a weekend and do it or take it in and get it done for $300... $66 for the part. I work at a bearing company and we carry lots and lots of bushings, just woundering if some one has the Dimensions of these or know where I can get them?

theres a bunch of threads around about the Radius Arm Bushings just search for RAB or Radius Arm Bushings

if they have never been done on your truck you will probably have to dremel away some rivits and replace them with bolts.
