Lost 3rd gear! what are my options?

hey guys, last night i started driving home and my X was real messed up. I have a 5speed manual 1992 XLt. I totally lost 3rd gear. At first i was gettung these clanging noises so i took it out of 3rd and then alot of the other gears were rea messed up. after a little while everything went back to normal but third gear is like a nuetral. 1st,2nd,4th, and overdrive are fine as of now. Im wondering what the problem is and what i can do about it, how much it will cost. I realize its probably not a very simple answer but any advice/past experience would be welcomed. thanks alot

The only option is a full rebuild. It sucks, the same thing happened to mine. Probably a gear on the jack shaft blew up and took out some others...that's what happened to mine. I got my "new" tranny from a u-pull place for $900, they have a guy that rebuilds trannies so it's good rebuild and it came with a decent (1yr?) warentee.

yea thats what i thought. did you have someone put it in for you? how much did that cost?
