so I was coming home tonight when I heard a strange noise(also my abs light came on and i lost a lot of my braking power) so I pulled ofer and checked the wheels tightened the lug nuts on the front passenger wheel, I pull back out and it still has the noise, I pulled over again and checked all computer/abs connections along with all 4 wheels again, no luck. i pull over a third and final time and pull off the hubcap on the same pass front, and with it comes the bearing cover and a bunch of small metal shards... upon looking at it from the back of the car i can see the wheel is leaning in about 5 degrees
im 90% sure i have lost this bearing, so i parked it overnight and got a ride home with a friend.

can anyone point me to any good resorces for bearing replacement how too?
or if you can confirm that this is indeed my bearing?(it dosnt seem like i would lose my brakes, but i really have little/no experience in the area...)
its in the little metal cap in the center of the wheel, in the center of the lug nuts...

(also its a 2wd)

bump

can anyone help me out here? i have to have a car for tomorrow, and mine is currently still stuck in a parking lot....

Alright, I have AWD.. so we have a little bit of difference... but you may have damaged more than you think. You will definitely need to replace the bearing... when mine went out.. since the wheel leaned... well... it shoved the pads INTO the rotor.. tearing those up.. and part of the bearing assembly smashed into the spindle grinding the head of the bolt which bolts the hub assembly to the spindle into nothing.. plus the heat seized it into the spindle... pop the wheel off and inspect everything in that area. If you have a camera, take pictures if you can.

couldn't get any pics, i didn't have a chance to go work on it till after dark.
my bearings are nothing but little shreds of metal, my whole spindle is trashed, the bolt that holds everything together fused to it, along with part of my bearing.
(and i only got this truck like 3 months ago)
but i got lucky, my bro has the spindles off his ranger that we are gonna try and swap out for for mine that's ruined.
also no the calipers and pads are fine, so i got lucky there too

well another update

i got my bros old spindle on, but
I found out that ranger rotors are smaller than ex rotors, so ima try and get it back home tonight with no front brakes... wish me luck!

Woah... Be very careful... have someone follow you just in case. Good luck dude.

i made it ok, we jammed a monkey wrench into the brake so that i still had the left front brake, and i had somone behind and in front of me.

heres a quick pick of the old spindle after i got it off, you can see where we cut through the old bearing and yet it still didnt come off...
srry its a phone pic

Not exactly how mine was, but yeah... bad stuff man. Glad you're okay and things didn't get really bad... we have one member on here... hub assembly had a catastrophic failure.. burst into flames.. caused the balljoints to fail and burnup.. and then it destroyed the tire... oh man..

Should be a pretty straightforward repair then.

Wow, flames from ball joints!!! Musta been completely backasswords or something????

and it would be a straightforward repair, if i had any $$$...
but unfortunately I don't, and i cant make any, so im going around to the junkyards and hoping to get lucky

I know where you're coming from, believe me..... damn money issues..

well I discovered today that 12in. rotors are extremely rare in h-town, so I decided to use my bros old spindles after all and convert to an 11.25 in. rotor.

I also came to a revelation, I HATE BEARINGS

Me too my friend... me too.... but at the same time... without em... we'd be sitting around not mobile...... well.. we Could walk... Or ride a bike until it siezes up. (because the lack of bearings..) lol..
