2000 Explorer 4.0 Limited
Hello everyone,

Last year I got my brother’s Ford Explorer 4.0 SOHC 204hp 4WD (2000 model). I renovated it, and it already had an LPG system installed. At first everything felt normal, just some occasional misfires.

I took it to the LPG installer to retune the system. After the retune the misfires disappeared, and the car felt good at first. However, when driving uphill, I noticed a big issue: the car has no power, won’t kick down, and accelerates very slowly.

Here’s what I’ve checked/done so far:

  • MAF sensor cleaned and checked → diagnostics show it’s working fine.
  • LPG installer tried retuning again, but no matter what he did the car’s behavior didn’t change. He says it’s not the LPG system.
  • On petrol it’s not better: the fuel pump needs replacement, and under full throttle the RPMs actually drop. If I press the throttle ~80%, it will accelerate slowly.
  • Throttle position sensor → diagnostics show it’s working fine.

So far, I’m stuck. Any ideas where I should look next? Could it be transmission-related, fuel delivery, or something else?

Thanks in advance for any help!
