Hello To All,

I’m trying to Fix a problem for my Boss at Work-

He Has a 1996 Ford Explorer, V8, AWD, w/ JBL Factory System
(6 Disk CD Changer & Sub).

The Radio Signal is...
<<<<<Very-Very-Week>>>>>
but the Power Antenna Works and Looks just as it Should.

He Had a New Kenwood CD player w/ New 6-disk changer installed (2) Years ago trying to Fix the problem.

So NOW-
I have Looked at the Wire Diagrams provided by this site & it looks like there is a “Power Antenna Module”….

1- If this had a Bad Connection, would it cause the Radio Signal to be very week????
2- Would the Power Antenna work if their was a bad Connection???
3- Am I looking in the Correct Starting Place??
4- Is this a Common problem for this Make/Model?

His Sub also Cuts Out when He goes over a Speed Bump or hits a Pot Hole,
Could these problems be Linked????

I did a Search on this Site about (3) Different ways, it Pulled Up a BUNCH of stuff, So now I’m Posting…

I have NOT pulled anything out (YET:D) and wanted to do some Research before diving In-

Thank You All…….

Sounds like they could be linked to me. It's common around that year (which have external amps) for the connection to the amps to get loose which causes the sound to cut out. So it might not be a weak signal at all. So check the amp connections. It's in the right rear quarter panel in front of the sub.

I will Start Their-

If these were Linked should/would-it-also effect the CD Signal??

What do you mean by CD signal? Like music from the CD cutting out? If so than yes since all of the sound gets piped through the amp.

Wouldn’t the Loose Connection on the External Amp effect the CD-Players Sound Also…????

Since the factory radio was replaced with an after market HU rthe factor amp should have been bypassed. If it was not this might be the problem.

Also, the antennae lead for the factory radio plugs into the external amp and requires an extension lead to the dash to plug into an after market HU.

It looks like I need to start @ the External Amp……..

The problem Existed before the aftermarket was put in.
